Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at veterinarycommunityoutreach@gmail.com or on Facebook Messenger if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Veterinary Community Outreach (VCO) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that began in Charles Town, WV, and has since established a location in Berryville, VA. Since partnering with Jefferson County Community Ministries in 2019, we’ve hosted monthly vaccine clinics at their facility. In 2021, we expanded our services and now offer 3-4 vaccine clinics each month in Berryville. Our mission is to provide affordable vaccinations for all cats and dogs in the community.

We currently offer the following vaccines and services for cats and dogs:

Rabies: $10

Feline Distemper (FVRCP): $15

Canine Distemper (DAPP or DHPP): $15

Bordetella (dogs only): $18

Leptospirosis (dogs only): $20

Lyme Vaccine (dogs only): $50

Microchipping: $20

Deworming for puppies and kittens (or as needed): Complimentary

Please note that we do not see sick pets—this includes conditions such as ear infections, allergies, vomiting, or diarrhea. We also do not provide grooming services, including nail trims. Currently, our focus is solely on preventative care through the vaccines mentioned above.

It is a legal requirement for all dogs to have their rabies vaccine current and updated, which can be administered starting at 12 weeks of age, once they have adult incisors. The DAPP/DHPP vaccine, commonly known as the distemper vaccine, is considered essential for dogs. It protects against several serious and sometimes fatal diseases, including Parvovirus, Distemper, Adenovirus, and Parainfluenza.

For dogs that are boarded, groomed, or in training, the Bordetella vaccine is often required, as it guards against kennel cough.

Leptospirosis is a bacterial infection transmitted through wildlife urine. Dogs that frequent areas with wildlife are at a higher risk and would benefit from this vaccine, as it is also transmissible to humans.

Additionally, the Lyme vaccine is recommended to protect against Lyme disease transmitted by ticks. While it does not prevent the disease entirely, it can mitigate some symptoms. However, it’s important to note that flea and tick medication is the first line of defense against Lyme and other tick-borne diseases.

It is a legal requirement for all cats to have their rabies vaccine current and updated, which can be administered starting at 12 weeks of age and when they weigh at least 3 pounds. The FVRCP vaccine (feline distemper) is generally recommended as a core vaccine, as it protects against Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, and Panleukopenia.

While there are additional vaccines recommended based on a cat’s lifestyle, these are the only vaccines we currently offer.

Cats and dogs must be at least 12 weeks old AND over 3lbs. We may also check their teeth to ensure they have adult incisors coming in. This is not a VCO policy, rather a legality. Thank you for your understanding!

The best way to make an appointment is using the link - waitwhile.com/locations/vco, where the most upcoming and available appointments are posted. If none are available, our Facebook will have the upcoming clinics. Walk ups for the vaccine clinics are welcome, however we are high volume and there can be a wait at times.
